How To Bug-Proof Your Home For the WinterIt’s that time of year, when you want to cuddle up by the fire and hibernate in your cozy, warm home. In fact, you aren’t the only one who is making those plans. Bugs are starting to gravitate toward your home this time of year, so they can overwinter. They can only survive in warmer climates, making your warm home the perfect place to nest until Spring.

If you don’t want a bunch of new insects roaming around your house in the Spring, there are some actions you can take to avoid this!

  1. Seal up your home. You know those cracks, holes, and screen tears that you’ve been avoiding taking care of? Even the smallest holes make a perfect entry way for pests to come in. So, take a look around your walls, roof, etc. to see where you might want to seal up.
  2. Keep a clean environment. Pests need to eat, too! They don’t care if it’s a well prepared meal, or some crumbs, they will eat whatever you leave out. Try to keep your space tidy and seal up any food containers that would be easily accessible to pests. Also, I know it’s cold, but don’t forget to take out your trash, regularly!
  3. Eliminate moisture. The attic and basement can be especially vulnerable to moisture, which makes for a great nesting space. You can use dehumidifiers or seal up any leaking pipes you know of.
  4. Inspect what comes into your home. Firewood is a main culprit for carrying bugs inside during the winter. Make sure to store your firewood away from your home and when it’s time to bring it inside, inspect it before you put it down. Shoes and clothes are also great vehicles for pests!

If you suspect you have some pests, or just want to be sure you won’t have a crazy spring, you can use our Year-Round® Ready-to-Use Trigger Sprayer Bottle. This formula is designed specifically for house plants and can keep your home safe from pests through the winter months!
